Is your  motto  “grip it and rip it” great for those golfers who can play the rest of the game. However most of us, this writer included,  cannot “grip it and rip it” and score under 100. Now maybe you are ok with the idea that you have latest big head driver and you can hit it 150 yards into the woods and feel like a gorilla. I know most of my friends at the end of the day talk about pars and birdies and I am not able to contribute much to the conversation.

I looked around and saw that 90 % of the teaching and practicing was on swing and striking the ball . I also looked at my score card and saw how many strokes I was losing to putting. I decided to improve my putting. I started out by bringing my putter and three golf balls into my office and putting while I was on conference calls and in meetings with my staff.  Guess what, it didn’t help. I got very good at hitting it into corners and banking it off file cabinets and yet I was no better on the course. Being a logical person I started looking at what my problem was and discovered that I did not hit it straight or with the heart of the club. So, being a typical golfer, I bought a new putter. It helped but I still had no distance control and was still three putting from ten feet. Finally, I decided that if I was going to improve I had to learn two things. How to PUTT for specific distance and how to hit it straight. The rest of this newsletter tells you what to do to create a putting straight process. I am not out to sell you anything else I just hope that this cuts the 5 stokes off your score it did for me
Are you crazy? I know that each green on each course for each day is different. I challenge you. Your game will improve if you hit it straight. Let’s talk about the contour of the greens. With the exception of Bethpage on the golf courses we “duffers “play the greens role pretty true. If you have a green where you must play the contour don’t you still have to hit it to a spot at a certain speed? You certainly do and if you can hit the spot accurately won’t the contour play the way you want it to? The answer is yes. Hitting a putt straight is the best way to cut down on your score. Also Speed coming down hill is tricky. If you know your capabilities on distance you are better able to control that putt as it rolls and rolls. Remember our goal to it cut strokes; this will not make you a scratch golfer only practice will.
The thing that costs the most strokes is PUTTING
Wait, putting greens are not flat, I have to play the contour.
